Vascular Surgery
Vascular surgery deals with the management of vascular disorders, arteries and veins; it ranges from the treatment of aneurysms (dilation) of the abdominal aorta to the treatment of lower limbs varicose veins.
Without elaborating much we could say that vascular surgery deals with the blood vessels when they are affected by two conditions: atherosclerosis and thrombophlebitis.
Recently, the emergence of different procedures (endovascular surgery, angioplasty, special catheters, endoluminal bypass and the development of imaging techniques) account for the progress in the diagnosis and treatment of the arterial and venous conditions.
